Pre-surgical planning with precision

The pre-surgical planning package in nordicMEDiVA includes BOLD fMRI and diffusion tractography. Both classical DTI and spherical deconvolution tractography have been included for increased precision and the ability to visualize crossing fibers.

BOLD fMRI

The BOLD fMRI technique measures small changes in the oxygenation level of the blood when a person is presented with a stimulus. The nordicMEDiVA BOLD fMRI module is designed to automate pre- and post-processing. The statistical maps are exported to the nordicMEDiVA viewer for inspection, quality control, and further manipulation.

DTI and Spherical Deconvolution tractography

Diffusion tensor imaging is the first widely adopted model to approximate the nerve fiber tracts in the brain. It suffers from a fundamental limitation in that it does not model complex structures accurately, such as crossing fibers. To improve the diffusion tractography results in brain regions with multiple crossing fibers, we have included spherical deconvolution tractography as an option in the processing.

DTI tractography is also provided.

See the difference!

The images below show the corticospinal tract and the arcuate fasciculus from the same scan and patient. The images to the left are created using the classical diffusion tensor imaging technique, while the images to the right use the spherical deconvolution technique.

More features

  • fMRI processing is done using the General Linear Model (GLM).

  • Spherical deconvolution tractography can be used to improve tractography in regions of the brain with multiple crossing fibers. DTI tractography is also included.

  • The advanced motion correction algorithm in nordicMEDiVA can correct motion up to 30 degrees. Motion curves are output for quality control.

  • Manually construct any block-type paradigms and process the BOLD acquisition regardless of the stimulus presentation software used. In addition, we tightly integrate with nordicAktiva from NordicNeuroLab for an even smoother experience.

  • Quality control of input and output data can be done using the integrated DICOM viewer.
